Hope, Health and Healing

“What now? I’m overwhelmed as it is…”

“How do I handle all of this?”

“Why does this keep happening?”

These thoughts may often cross the minds of those of us who are up to our foreheads in stress, or going through a difficult situation. Maybe you’re noticing the events of the past few years have had a domino effect; causing unexpected life changes, putting additional stress on your relationships, or affecting your overall mood in ways you don’t like.

Going through any of these things can be lonely, scary, or emotionally and physically exhausting. Is it hopeless, though?

Absolutely not, even when it feels that it is.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you have thought at some point, “It feels like everyone is going through something right now. Why should I seek help?”

One of many answers:

Everyone is experiencing life looking through their own lens. You may share common experiences with many, but your perspective is unique. You’re the only one who has lived your life to this point; everything you have gone through has colored the lens with which you view your life. You have every right to make positive changes in your life if you so choose.

You deserve a healthy, happy life. Seeking the help of counseling shows strength and determination. You have everything you need internally, but will benefit from an unbiased, external support to make the best of those strengths.

Here are some things you may be experiencing that let you know it is time for you to seek help:

  • You have lost sleep, felt paralyzed by fear or anxiety, or been distracted because your thoughts are always on a stressor, or perhaps even another person.
  • You have experienced times of hopelessness over changes in your life, including relationships, work, or home life.
  • You’re sacrificing much of yourself. Your social life may be suffering. Perhaps your friendships or romantic relationships have become strained or distant.
  • You’re noticing that today’s stress is bringing up things from your past that you have not completely addressed before.
  • You feel so inundated with society, information, and news, that you almost want to go live on your own in a cabin in the woods.

  • It seems that you have either tried absolutely everything to deal with things on your own with no result, or maybe you just have no idea where to start.
